Farewell, 4201

I have loved this house...the light, the flow, and the old growth burled oak woodwork. I hope the new owner loves it too!

Curb Appeal

The front slope has always been difficult to mow, but then it began to erode as well. A retaining wall usually never makes a good return on investment and I love flowers and plants, so I researched sun-loving, southern-facing, drought-tolerant plantings that can handle a slope: creeping roses, juniper and stone crop, with accents of Russian sage and silver mound.

Backyard Overhaul

Excited to wrap up the backyard project!

AFTER

BEFORE

1. Moved the AC from the back to the north side of the house, in the shade.
2. Removed the old DIY bump-out from the back of the house. The fascia was built up over the edge of the shingles.
3. Re-sided the back with white trim and cedar shakes in the dormer. Wish I had enough cash to do all the dormers in cedar shakes and all the windows in white trim, love this look.
4. Tore out the old patio. The concrete was settling/sloping into the house and causing the back threshold to rot and the foundation to mold.
5. Replaced the rotting fence facing my neighbor and updated the gates.
6. Added electricity to the back; back door lights inside and outside, and an outdoor socket

Welcome!

These new front steps were inspired by the bungalows I saw on a recent visit to Seattle. The original steps had to account for a huge old maple tree. That tree is dead and gone now, so there is plenty of room for a nice front stoop.

Southside!

I will be closing on this home 10/28/11 and begin restoring it immediately after that. Wish me luck!
